What Does it Mean to Glorify God? | Keep God in Life

We hear it every Sunday at Church- we are supposed to glorify God. Have you ever taken a step back and asked, what does that actually mean?

The Oxford definition of glorify is simply to praise and worship. We as humans are supposed to show respect for everyone around us. The only thing, however, that we are meant to glorify is the Lord. In 1 Peter 2:17, it is stated that we should “Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor.” We respect all, but fear and glorify God only.

So how exactly does one glorify God? It doesn't have to be complicated. To glorify God can be as simple as praying that our actions represent Him in our daily lives. From young children to the most powerful men and women on Earth, everyone is capable of glorifying the Lord. Glorification takes dedication and faith in the Word of Christ. It takes an understanding that every gift we are given is from above.

When we glorify God, we honor Him while every other word, thought, and desire fades. Take a look into your daily life; do your thoughts and actions honor the Lord? Make it your mission to change one thought and behavior a day to glorify God and become closer in your relationship with the Lord.
