Is it Important to be Baptized? What Age Should I Be Baptized? | Keep God in Life
If you have a growing church, you probably see baptisms happening quite often. Many people like to debate whether baptism is important, especially for those being baptized as a baby when they do not yet understand what is going on. If you're considering being baptized, or being re-baptized as an adult, read on.
In its simplest form, baptism is a way to be cleansed from sin and welcomed into the Body of Christ. It is a way to declare faith and begin a life following Jesus Christ. So why do we get baptized? In short, because Jesus told us we should. If we look at Matthew 28, He commanded the people to "go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the son and of the Holy Spirit." The disciples were told that they are responsible for spreading the word of Christ.
Why is it important? First, it is a way to be saved. Mark 16:16 states, "Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned."
As for the question of baptism at birth vs. as an adult- it is never too soon to be saved. Because we as humans are born into sin, we have a sinful nature from the very beginning of life. Being baptised, you are declaring that you will walk with Jesus Christ. You become His disciple, or representative, here on Earth. This responsibility should not be taken lightly, and you are promising to live out the remainder of your life in a godly manner. No matter the age, we all need to be cleansed of our sins in order to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.
"And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name." - Acts 22:16
